It totally depends on what kind of workout you're doing - how many muscles are involved, the intensity level, etc. (It also depends on your own weight. Heavier people burn more calories doing the same thing as lighter people.)

A good estimate if you're working pretty hard would be about 500 calories per hour, so you would have to work out 7 hours to burn 3500 calories or 1 hour per day. You'll lose 1 pound per week at this pace.

You can see why it's so hard to lose weight with exercise alone and not changing your diet. If you burn 500 calories a day and adjust your diet to eat 500 calories less per day also, you'll lose the weight twice as fast, or 2 pounds per week.

Training with weights or resistance training is good because it builds muscle, which burns more calories than fat. so a muscular person burns more calories all the time even when sleeping. It's a great side benefit!
