Exercise help?!

Question:

Exercise help?

I am on a carb diet, trying to lose a little thigh and belly fat. Do you reccomend any specific exercises or have any advice for me? I like to run, so I do use my treadmill almost daily...but does anyone have any better advice for me??

Answers:

I assume you mean a low carb diet? Be carefull with this.
You can not spot reduce so there are not really any specific exercise you can do to trim your thighs and belly.
If you like to run then keep at it. To reduce body fat you need to burn calories, to do this you need some form of cardio exercise and running is great. To change it up a bit you could try interval training. This is where you might run as fast as you can for 30seconds, then recover by slowing the pace for 30seconds. This is great if you are stuck for time because it is a very time efficient way to exercise. Do this say 20minutes 3 x per week and on the other days do a longer slightly lower intensity run. Not only will you accelerate your fat loss but you will increase your cardio fitness, and the better your cardio fitness the longer and harder you will be able to train for, therefore, greater ability to burn calories.
Another good idea is to do some strength training a couple of times per week as an increase in muscle mass will also aid in the reduction of body fat.
If you do not have access to weights you can use bodyweight as resistance with exercises like pushups and dips for the upper body and squats and lunges for the lower body. The best way to strengthen your abs is to remember to lock them on during exercise, or for a specific ab exercise you could try the plank/hover. Research these exercises on the net as there are so many variations to keep it interesting and challenging.
Remember, your body needs carbs for energy. Rather than drastically reducing your carb intake just make sure you eat the good kind. (fruit, veg, and wholegrain cereal breads and pasta). Every meal should include some carbs, fats and protein and you should eat regularly to keep your metabolism functioning well.
