If losing lots of weight is unhealthy then why on these T.V. programs do they?

Biggest loser-Celebrity fit club-Guest on numerous talk shows & all the while DR. are saying its a healthy way

Its healthy to lose a lot of weight, it is NOT healthy to lose a lot of weight in a short period of time. The people on these tv shows eat healthy and work out all the time. They are also quite overweight, so their weights tend to drop pretty quickly (your metabolism is actually higher when you are overweight, so its often easy to lose at first).

One of the reasons people say this (not that it isn't true!) is to steer people away from fad diets- things advertised that promise drastic weight loss in a short amount of time. They also want to encourage healthy weight loss (about 2 pounds a week) through eating right and exercising, because these are the things that really get results.
