Question:

What should I eat today...I'm going on a diet ?

This is the first day of my Diet and I want to know what should I eat for breakfast and lunch and supper ?

Answers:

Ideally your meals should be balanced with two to five servings of fruits and vegetables, two to three of meat (lean toward fish and chicken eating other meats in moderation), two to three servings of diary, etc... The food guide pyramid is available numerous places including doctors/nutritionists offices, magazines, the Internet, etc...

You should also drink between six to eight glass of water a day, one to two of milk, and one to two orange or cranberry juices or you can rotate.

Also, it really is more about portion control in a lot of respects than about what yout eat. Place your servings in a cup or on a child size plate; this is roughly equivalent to a serving. That doesn't mean you should eat just one thing, so be careful about this.

Walk or exercise about twenty minutes at least five times a week. That's all it takes for the average person. Contrary to popular beliefs you do not have to spend endless hours at a gym, etc...

In order to get the right amount of fruits and vegetables, make these part of your snack choices. Mixed nuts and popcorn are also good choices. Remember even snacks need to be limited to a serving size. See a doctor or nutritionist for guidelines if in doubt.

And once a week if you have the will power, treat yourself to one item you crave such as one sliver of pie, cake, etc... whatever you crave or limit them to once a day in SERVING SIZE portions.

Everything in moderation. DO NOT CUT ANY FOOD GROUP FROM YOUR DIET INCLUDING FAT (A LITTLE IS NEEDED FOR A HEALTHY BALANCE)

No Fad diets. Just healthy choices.
