Answers:
Whey protein powder is a great way to get extra protein into your diet!. Your body absorbs this stuff very quickly, and it's a great way to get some quick protein in your body after a workout!.

After lifting weights, your body has about half an hour where your muscles will very quickly absorb protein!. This is the best time to take whey, but you should take it with water, as the casein in milk will bind with the whey and will slow down absorption of the protein!.

With that said, I will mix 1% milk and whey powder with my regular meals and snacks to get some extra protein in my diet!. Keep in mind that I used to be a professional bodybuilder and currently weigh 250 pounds at 8% body fat!. I need a lot of protein in my diet to maintain my size!.

You may not need as much as me, and you should plan your diet carefully to determine exactly how much protein you really need!.

To do so, I suggest you use the Katch-McArdle BMR formula (using lean body mass, not total weight) and calculate your TDEE using that number!. If you're trying to gain, only increase your TDEE by 500 calories to 120% of your TDEE (find what works best for you)!.

If you're trying to lose or cut (doesn't sound like you are) only decrease your TDEE by 20%, and if you hit a plateau, eat your TDEE for a week!. If you're really anal, like me, you can cycle your caloric intake so you have two days of TDEE per week!. Most plans call this a "cheat day," but I don't like the implications of cheating, so I just call it a high calorie day!.

Keep your simple carbs to early in the day (and/or before your workouts) and keep a steady stream of fiber and complex carbs all day long!. Eat five (women) to six (men) small meals a day to keep from spiking your insulin!. FYI, this will also stabilize ghrelin and leptin (hormones that control hunger and satiety) in your system and will help to control food cravings and binge eating, if you have problems in that arena!.!.!.

When you worry about people putting more fat on than anything, chances are they were drinking an energy drink during their workout, or took their post-workout protein with a sugary drink!. This is the worst thing you can do! Your insulin will spike and your body will be more likely to store some of these new calories as fat!. Remember, when your insulin is high, you'll store more calories as fat, even if you're not eating any fat!. It's part of the reason why all of the low-fat diets didn't work back in the 80's!. Sure, foods were low in fat, but they were packed with refined/enriched flour, HFCS, and other simple carbs!. If you only drink water during a workout (it's all you need, really, just drink more of it if you think you're getting dehydrated) and mix your post-workout whey drink with water (watch the simple carbs in flavored whey mixes, also) then you'll mitigate the number one reason why many people gain fat when they take whey after a workout!.

Hope this helps! Good Luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Muscle is made of proteins!. If you are working out to build muscle, then you need to have proteins in your system, so your muscles can repair themselves!. Whey protein gets into your system faster than other types of protein, so your body gets what it needs, when it needs it, and doesn't have to wait!. Supplementing whey protein after working out assures that your body can rebuild what was just torn up!.

You will only put of fat from whey protein if you aren't working out!. It is added calories!.

Also, NEVER mix whey protein with dairy of any kind!. It drastically slows the absorption rate and defeats the purpose of taking it!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm not going to go into the science behind it, if you want that then go goggle it!. But protein is great for after a workout!. Many many people, including myself, like to have protein right after weight training!. But, it is calories and when you are trying to build muscle, you need a lot of calories!. It isn't going to make you fat unless you are eating way too much!. Protein powder in itself doesn't not have the power to make you fat!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
