Here are the basics:

Moderate Aerobic Exercise for 30 Minutes a Day, 5 Days a Week - such as brisk walking

Higher Aerobic Activity ( if you are fit) for 20 Minutes on 3 Days Each Week: walking at a high heart rate and exertion level!.

Add Balance Exercise If You Are At Risk of Falls: Engaging in any exercise can help reduce your risk of falls!. Adding balance exercise three time a week can further reduce fall risks!.

Add Flexibility Exercises Such as Stretching: Take 10 minutes extra on each exercise day to stretch your major muscle and tendon groups!.

All healthy adults need endurance exercise, which noticeably accelerates their heart rate for at least 10 minutes at a time!. They can get it either with moderate or vigorous exercise!. You can enjoy a brisk walk, jog, dance, bike, or swim!. You can also mix it up and enjoy moderate activity some days and vigorous activity other days, if you wish!.

Prior to taking up an exercise I recommend that you obtain an all clear form your medical practitioner/doctor especially heart and joint functions!.

I would suggest that as you have not taken rigorous exercise do not rush into it even if you have the all clear!.

The reason for this will be a condtion we refer to as DOMS Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness!.

A very debiladating short period of pain within your muscles, normally manifesting itself 12/48 hours after you exercise and lasting for up to 5 days!.

During this time movement is very painfull but not serious!. Its just your body sending you a message not to exercise during this time!.

After this has passed, further exercise should not bring it on again (doms) unless there is long periods of inactivity or addtionl muscles are exercised!.

If you can get over this prior to your holiday that will be great!. You will also enjoy your holiday better because you will be fitter!.
