Vitamin supplements help you if you get less than the recommended daily dosage because you eat too much junk food!.
Which doesn't mean that they make junk food healthy!. Even with supplements it still has all the other side effects like obesity, increased chance of heart disease!.!.!.

There are many studies that show antioxidants linked to improved health, however the evidence that supplements can improve health or decrease mortality rates is mixed (see the link)!.
