Does rice double in weight when cooked?!

Question:

Does rice double in weight when cooked?

Answers:

The weight of a small cup of rice is 200g, the weight of a cup of water is about 220g. If you use the 2:1 closed pan method of cooking that would mean that the rice would more than triple in weight. This assumes that all the water is absorbed by the rice. Some is lost to evaporation, so it is more likely that it is just under triple its weight.
