What does fiber do, and what kind of food is it found in?!

Question:

What does fiber do, and what kind of food is it found in?

I've heard that fiber is good, but why? And where can I find it in abundance?

Answers:

There are two different types of fiber -soluble and insoluble.

Insoluble fiber is the type of fiber that is in vegetables and green salads. This fiber helps with digestion and moves food through the intestines and clean out waste. You probably have heard that colon cleansing is good for you because it gets rid of toxins that build in your system. If they move along the digestive tract too slowly they can ferment and build up. By adding more insoluble fiber to your diet not only keeps you feeling full longer (and is a great help when dieting) but also helps get rid of this waste.

Soluble fiber is the fiber that is found in foods like oatmeal. Again it helps with your digestive tract but also absorbs cholesterol which in turn keeps your cholesterol levels low and aids in heart health.

It's also good to have a mixture of both fiber types in your diet
and it's recommended that you consume about 32 grams of fiber per day.

When you are adding fiber to your diet make sure that you add it gradually and that you drink plenty of liquids so that you do not get constipated.
