Losing Belly Fat?!

Question:

Losing Belly Fat?

I'm a 26 year old guy that is height/weight proportionate, (6', 172) but it seems as though all of my weight goes to my stomach and is not evenly distributed. I basically look like a thin guy with a gut and of course that sucks.

I don't want to lose anymore weight because I really can't afford to. Even though I only weigh 172 at 6' tall, my gut is an issue believe it or not.

What is the best way to lose belly fat?

I had a personal trainer when I was younger, but I never really had much in the way of results although he had me doing all different kinds of excercises. I don't think I'm genetically inclined to me muscular at all. Plus I lack coordination and so getting the right form is really difficult for me, which makes me want a personal trainer really badly but I can't afford it. It's just too expensive.

If I were to do sit-ups everyday, would that be enough to get rid of the gut I have? If so, how many sit-ups should I do per day?

Answers:

Much of belly fat is brought on by stress. Is there something in your daily routine that is causing you stress that could be alleviated?

I know that we can't quit our jobs and sometimes there is a stress that can not be eliminated but you can learn to cope with it better. Try to find the positive points in your job for example: is it air conditioned at work during these hot days? Are you making a decent paycheck? Do you have friends at work that otherwise you would not normally see?

These are just examples - think up your own. By relieving a bit of stress you can help stop the production of cortisol which is the hormone which causes belly fat.

You should also try to do some targeted exercises. The bicycle and reverse crunches are excellent. Remember too that your belly puts a strain on your back so try to add in some back exercises to build it up stronger.

You have to remember that when you are doing your targeted exercises don't go for speed. If you want to see the greatest results you want your body not the momentum of your body to be doing the work.

You will also need to strengthen your entire core, Work your abs with the bicycle (2 sets of 25 per day) then add in the obliques (side jack knifes- 10 per day) the bridge - 3, 20 second workouts, side crunches - 2 sets of 5.

You can also help when you are not working out by holding your stomach in while breathing normally. Hold your stomach in for 10 seconds, 10 times per day. Gradually work up until you find yourself holding your stomach in for 2 or 3 minutes several times a day. After a while it will get easier and easier.

Although you mention that it is only your belly that you have a problem with you should still watch what you eat and make sure that each calorie is worth it. Good nutrition is important in keeping any extra fat away.

Good luck!
