What can I do for shin splints???!

Question: What can I do for shin splints!?!?!?
I work at a nursing home and am on my feet all the time using the lifts, helping people out of bed, and just walking around in general and I have such painful shin splints now mainly in my left leg!. At first I thought it was my shoes so I bought Nike shoes and bought the ones specifically for walking and that didn't work!. So other than stretching and exercise is there anything else I can do!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

The number one thing you can do to help them is REST!. It sucks!.!.!.but in order to let them heal, you have to stop doing the movement that's hurting them in the first place!. Other than that!.!.!.new shoes!. I know you've already tried it, but Nike sucks!. I recommend Asics!. Either that, or you could try getting some new inserts for your shoes!. Finally, you can ice your shins if they start really hurting!. It's only temporary relief!.!.!.but it helps!.

I've also read that shin splints occur because your calf muscles are weak!.!.!.!.and you should exercise them!. The only way I've read about is to walk more on the heal of your foot than the ball of your foot!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Take your shoes off and while sitting, place your feet flat on the floor!. A good exercise is to move your toes like you are trying to curl up a towel under them almost like you are trying to draw the towel towards you with your toes!. If you place your fingers on the outer shin area you will feel the muscles working and it might give you relief!. Old distance runner's tip!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
