Bring your naval to your spine, what does that mean excatly?!

Question:

Bring your naval to your spine, what does that mean excatly?

Well see I was reading on about pilates(sp?) and it said for the AB moves to be done correctly you must bring your naval to your spine. I interpreted it as suck in your stomach in but I am kinda doubting it seeing as though it said breathe in a certain way? Well someone who is experienced in Pilates explain what that exactly means. And if you know any Pilate DVDs that are effective well you list them. I thank you for your input

Answers:

It just means you should pull your abs into your spine, kinda like sucking in your gut, but instead contracting the abs. You can tell the diference if you do it correctly. This just helps you with your core strength, it helps the moves be more effective on the abs. A couple good DVD's are Pilates for Everyone by Denise Austin and Pilates Plus with Tracy York and Michelle Dozois. Hope this helps
