Normally an overdose of potassium is not life-threatening, since excess potassium triggers a vomiting reflex in the stomach!. Babies and people with weak hearts may not be able to withstand this trauma!. Consuming too much potassium can be harmful to people with kidney problems, because they are unable to get rid of the excess!.

There is no major chronic disease associated with too much potassium!. When excess potassium is present in the blood, the cause is usually a health problem such as kidney failure, uncontrolled diabetes or use of certain drugs!. Excess potassium can trigger a heart attack and result in death!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

First, remember too much of ANYTHING is bad for you!. People have died from drinking too much water!. Anyway, you would have to have a kidney disorder, be severely dehydrated, or inject potassium for it to be dangerous!. People who have poor kidney functions, suffer trauma, or don't consume enough sodium (very hard to do!) are at risk!. Just eating a lot of potassium usually won't cause it- your body has mechanisms to deal with the excess- but if you don't consume enough sodium (from leafy greens, etc) to balance it out then there might be a problem!. Without enough sodium, your cells can expand too much and possibly burst!. In your body the ratio is about 3:1 potassium to sodium!.
"Normal level of potassium in the bloodstream is in the range of 3!.5-5!.0 mM, while levels of 6!.3+ mM (severe hyperkalemia) result in cardiac arrhythmias or even death due to cardiac arrest!. Potassium is potentially quite toxic, however toxicity or death due to potassium poisoning is usually prevented because of the vomiting reflex!. !.!.!. The body's regulatory mechanisms can easily be overwhelmed, however, when potassium chloride is injected intravenously, as high doses of injected potassium can easily result in death!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
