Running and/or jogging in the heat... how to cope?!

Question:

Running and/or jogging in the heat... how to cope?

Lately I've been having troubles finding the right time to run. The heat has been incredible where I live so normally I wait until it's evening. The thing is, I want to start running earlier (although mornings don't work for me) instead of at 9pm. Any tips on how to cope in the extreme heat?

Also, lately after running I've been getting headaches. I don't know if that has anything to do with the heat or not. Any ideas?

Thx a mill.

Answers:

Headaches sound like dehydration. You need to stay hydrated to up your fluid intake. Also you will not be able to maintain the same intensity in the heat as you could on a cooler day. So keep that in mind and listen to you body. You may want to put a wet towel in the freezer for a few minutes and then put it around your neck while you run. It will allow you just a few extra minutes of relief when you run. Good luck and remember the longer you run in the heat the more you will get used to it. Just drink plenty of water.
