If you are looking for long term results instead of a quick fix, fitness trainers usually recommend 30 mins to 1 hour of cardio 3 to 4 times a week!.
If you are only starting, it is good to stick to 30 mins to 1hour 3 times a week (one day on/ one day off), this way you won't get fed up and you will be less likely to give up!. In time you will build enough stamina to be able to add a 4th work out in your week!.
Also if your exercise DVD is focusing on strength and cardio, try and invest in a good Pilates DVD as it will help with flexibility and posture, at the same time it will strengthen your core muscles!.
