Dieting as a married couple. PLEASE HELP!?!

Question: Dieting as a married couple!. PLEASE HELP!!?
My husband and I have both agreed that we need to start focusing on eating and living a healthier lifestyle!. But our problem is, we don't like the same types of foods!

My husband is a little overweight, and has done the Atkins diet before, and lost a TON of weight, but since then has gotten off of that diet, and has gained even more back!. He enjoys foods that a heavy and "manly" like red meat, pastas, barbeque, cheese, etc!. And he HATES veges and fruits! So, you can see why the Atkins diet worked so well for him!. They only thing he really had to cut out was the pastas!.

I, on the other hand, have always had a pretty high metabolism, and have never had to be on a "diet", but lately have wanted to stay healthy, so I want to live some kind of diet that promotes a healthy lifestyle!. I like light foods!. Such as, turkey/chicken, fish, veges, fruits, breads, rice, etc!.

(Please wait for me to add more details to this!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
My girlfriend and I are the same way!. I like steak and deep fried foods and she likes chicken and rice!. It took going to the doctors to realize I had to pay more attention to what I was eating!. I have lost 50 lbs and she has lost 40 lbs!. We started cutting back on the more fattening meals during the week, but ate what we wanted on the weekends!. We also did a lot of cardio (treadmill, bike, etc) and that really made the pounds fall off!. It is so much easier to exercise when you have a partner to do it with!. As long as you stick to the 'diet' during the week and work out as a 'team', you should see the pounds come off fairly quick!. Good Luck :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Me and my boyfriend are the same way!. What I typically do is make some veggies and add it to whatever we're cooking or eat less of it then he does and add a lot of veggies to the side!. I believe one of the ways I have kept the weight I lost 5 years ago is I know add veggies to freaking everything! To pastas!. mac and cheese, tuna casserole, anything!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm lucky in that my wife and I both like the same foods!. Here's a suggestion: You can include meat and pasta and cheeses in your foods, but scale them back ever so slightly!. Don't have STEAK!. Instead, have stir-fry with chunks of beef!.

Shop some cookbooks that reduce the amount of meat and pasta and cheese!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

South Beach really isn't a diet, per se, but what I'd call Atkins done smart!. It focuses on good carbs (whole grains, those with a low glycemic index), and good fats (omega-3, olive oil)!.

This won't make your husband happy, but he needs to eat fruits and vegetables and meat from poultry and seafood!. For one, fruits/veg provide fibre (something your body needs)!. Two, they help with cardiovascular health!. Seafood (especially fish like salmon) are loaded with omega-3, which is very good for you!. Use oils like olive oil (much better for you than vegetable oil)That much saturated fat and he's looking at heart disease (and all that comes with it)!. Fruits like oranges, berries, apples are all GREAT!. Even a banana in the morning isn't bad!. Sorry, but he also needs to eat green leafy vegetables!. If you're grilling steaks, throw some peppers and/or mushrooms on the grill!.

With all this being said!.!.!.every nutritionist out there will tell you diets don't work!. Making wholesale, long-term modifications to what you eat works!.

He can still eat pasta on South Beach!.!.!.welcome him to whole wheat pastas!. You can even have brown rice (just no white flour or refined white flour products)!.

A few big tenets:

1) Portion control!. As in eat less!.
2) Instead of eating three big meals a day, eat 5-6 small meals!. Your metabolism will increase, and you won't have the drops in low blood sugar that usually end in eating junk!.
3) Read food labels!. If High Fructose Corn Syrup is one of the first five ingredients, don't buy it!. You'll be shocked how much of it is in sauces, etc!.
4) Avoid fast food at all costs!. It's cheap for a reason!.
5) Drink more water!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
