I need help with the idea of lap band surgery?!

Question: I need help with the idea of lap band surgery!?
my friend and i have been talking back and forth over the last week about this topic, and we do not agree!. i was looking for oppinions on what way of thinking is better then the other!.

1!. doing the surgery is a form of giving up on doing weightloss the healthy way!.

2!. doing the surgery is a way of moving on to the next step and a way of controlling the other issues that a person has!. they go thru 6 months (at least) to get ready and sure that it's the right choice and it does change them for the rest of their life, but it's a positive change if it's what they want and can do!.

what way of thinking do you agree with!? or is there one we're not thinking of!?!? please help!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The problem with the surgery is that it is surgery!. It is modifying your body to work the way it isn't supposed to!. And sometimes that goes bad!. I know people with stomach stapling can blow the staples, and then never be able to eat solid food again for the rest of their lives!. Before you seriosuly consider any surgery like this, look at any possible "side effects" which could ruin your body forever!.

So, go with #1!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Lapband is always done in a healthy, medically supervised and approved way!.

So much for that argument!.

Its not about healthy way or not, anyway!. This is a "cover excuse"!. What is REALLY behind that is that some people see it as a sign of WEAKNESS on the part of the overweight person!. Not able to gather the willpower to do it "right", in other words!. Weak!.

This is ignorant!.

Whatever will help the person reach the GOAL is what is important!. Done in a healthy, supervised, medically approved manner, which all lapbands are, it can be a very important tool that the person uses in order to reach their goal!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think that if you aren't willing to change your way of life then the surgery is not going to help!. So I think waiting is an excellent idea and start an exercise program, something you like to do and then cut back on calories!. Just because you have the surgery doesn't mean you will lose the weight and keep it off!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

usually they'll only do the surgery if you lose like 10% of your body weight so you have to be healthy for them to do the surgery!. i
i agree with the 2nd statement!. i think that any kind of surgery like that is a way to move the next step, some people need more help!. obesity is a disease thats hard to control!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I believe that if the person has dieted and exercised many times before, and has been struggling with weight loss their entire life than it may be a good idea!. Especially if they already have health problems (heart, arthritis, etc!.)!. However, if the person hasn't struggled with the weight issue their entire life and only started become overweight recently then this is something they should try themselves to overcome!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had Lap Band 4-16-08!. I have tried everything to lose weight but with the medications I take, it kept me from losing!. I have a lot of medical problems and I decided to have gastric bypass but my cardiologists said no, that he would approve the Lap Band!. It is NOT an easy fix, it is a tool and how you use your tool is what makes you lose the weight!. You have to eat healthy and do the exercises!. You are made to understand the procedures and you have to go to support groups to help with your success!. It is not just losing the weight (seeing it on the scale), it is other things like being able to get in smaller clothes, your health gets better, and your self esteem grows!. You learn to deal with the psychological aspects of what kept you down and replace it with good things!. It prepares you for getting to the next place in your life!. I would do my surgery over in a heartbeat!. It is going to give me extra years of my life (if that is in God's plans for me) to spend with my family and help with my other major medical issues!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have the lap-band and have lost about 80lbs in two years despite having knee and hip issues (nothing to do with my weight, partly the reason I got fat in the first place)!. I enjoy and wish I had done it earlier!. It can take a year for your appointments and insurance to go through!. I personally would go ahead with contacting the surgeon to see if you are a candidate!. S/he may want you on a prescription weight loss product, time with a nutritionist, personal trainer visits or even extended consults with a counselor!. Many get their hopes up only to find out the doc says you are not a candidate!.

Many times too, once you visit the surgeon once, they will allow you to go to their support group visits!. You will enjoy meeting others who have had it done!.

Obesityhelp!.com is a FANTASTIC website, too!.

Best wishes to you!Www@Answer-Health@Com
