Would vitamin supplements help a starving person?!
Question:
Would vitamin supplements help a starving person?
If someone is starving and they take vitamin supplements would that keep them healthy for a little while longer? Could they replace the vitamins we get from food?
Answers:
Sort of and there are published studies of villages in Africa supporting this. A lot of the food eaten in nations stricken with starvation are highly processed grains and provide calories but are horribly deficient in micronutrient support. Dietary supplements are now being provided in some relief programs and the benefits are being documented. These people still need calories but there is a growing body of evidence that suggests extra micronutrient support may provide even more benefit than we see in "normal" people.
