I find that most people misunderstand genetics!. Your genes are not a blueprint that strictly define your body type!. It's more like a set of instructions for building your body!. There is quite a bit of room for variation in those instructions!. That's where the environment plays a role!. Yes, genetics affect your weight and build, but as you stated before, so do diet and exercise!. Genes are regulated (expressed or not expressed) depending on environmental cues!. So, it may be that your genes predispose you to obesity!. Good, you've decided to do something about it! Congratulations!. I am a very skinny chap, and I recently started going to the gym 4 or 5 times a week!. My confidence shot through the roof!. I feel stronger, healthier, bigger!.

I also like the fact that several people mentioned your family's lifestyle!. Some things are attributed to genetics when in fact they are probably more appropriately attributed to our cultural lifestyle!. If you learned your social habits from your family, it stands to reason that you would tend to have the same health problems they do!. Break the cycle; be fit; look good; and feel great!. It's not easy, but the end result is well worth the effort!. I dread going to the gym every evening, but I feel great when I leave, and I sleep like a baby!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

their diet maybe hereditary but the obesity is not!.
the fat gene is a myth!.
the obese are awaiting a magic pill that will enable them to continue eating anything they want & with no willpower input what-so-ever!.
which bit of YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT do they not understand!?
EAT TOO MUCH YOU WILL GET FAT!
I too rarely see skinny parents with flabby kids!.
they must be doing something right!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It can be, but I think its more a lifetime of bad eating habits!. Its passed down to the kids who moan if they don't get their daily Maccy D and the parents who cant be bothered to cook proper food!. We never have a meal in our house without veg and my two are both slim, even though they both eat like a horse!. I cook like my parents did!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's not hereditary in the true sense of the word!. However, an obese parents by virtue of their weight is not likely to feed their children a healthy balanced diet and give them plenty of exercise!. What a cruel start to give a child!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it is in a way because the parents feed the unfortunate child in the same way as they feed themselves!. so the child grows up thinking bad food is the norm!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No! Well actually i suppose you could say that, the parents eat WAY too much food and then cook the same meals for their kids! Its ridiculous a lot of the nation is obese these days!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

because if the parents know how tobe fit and healthy thhen they raise their child to be the same!.!.!.!.the fat parents typically do the same with bad parenting as far as letting their child become obese like themWww@Answer-Health@Com

Partly!. But it is still predominantly about eating too many pies and not getting enough exercise!. Check out the average portion size for the fat family if you don't believe me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

not at all!. It's eating habits!. Overweight parents overfed their children - that is all!. There is no an "obesity gene"!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes casue if the parents get fast food the kids do ,,, what ever th e parents cook the kids eat !! so sadely yes the parents also put their kids in dangerWww@Answer-Health@Com

if the parents stuff their faces they are going to give the kids big meals and tell them to finish it all up
