Do snacks increase or decrease Metabollic rates?is it better to have a higher or lower MR?


Answers:

Do not snack. Don't eat anything within 2 hours of going to sleep. Lower metabolic rates are better during a famine, and genetically people with lower metabolic rates (ie those who put weight on easily) are more normal than those with higher metabolic rates. We really were designed for feast/famine, so we could withstand times when little food was around by storing excess food in times of plenty (like many animals). It's all about nature - just that these days for most of us in this country, there isn't the famine to rebalance out body-weights! Everyone is different - there is no one diet that will work for all. Best way is to make sure your diet is well balanced. Reducing portion-size can help (if the amount you're eating at the moment is either putting weight on or not reducing it - just eat a little less), don't snack, and take regular gentle exercise. You have to play around a bit to find out what works for you - and common sense is an excellent tool for this. Plus, once a week, give yourself a treat.
