How do I know what my heartrate is on the Elliptical?!

Question: How do I know what my heartrate is on the Elliptical!?
I was using the tredmill for a long time and recently switched to the Elliptical!. The Elliptical is a much harder workout (for me) but A LOT less painful!. While on the tredmill my shins are on fire so I like the Elliptical for that reason!. I have been going to the gym 6 days a week for 6 weeks and haven't lost any weight!. I also watch what I eat!.
I have heard that if my heartrate is too fast then I am not burning fat!? The elliptical doesn't have a heart monitor so how do I know what my heartrate is!? When I am on the Elliptical I am sweating like crazy and not too out of breath!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Your best bet is to purchase an inexpensive heart rate monitor!. Don't get one with all the bells & whistles--just the one that registers your heart rate!. Don't worry about being in the "fat-burning zone!." Do interval training instead (which keeps your metabolism burning high for several hours after you're done exercising!.) Subtract your age from 220!. That's your maximum heart rate!. Multiply that number by !.65 to train at 65% of your MHR!. And also by !.85 to train at 85% of your MHR!. Be sure to warm up for about 5 minutes!. Go for a minute at 85% and then recover at the 65% for a minute!. Repeat these intervals x 10!. Cool down for 5 minutes!. Do NOT do interval training every day!. I would suggest 3x/week!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
