Childhood Obesity??!

Question: Childhood Obesity!?!?
What is your opinion on childhood obesity!? Who do you think is to blame!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
i think the government, firms making all the junk food, shops, media and some parents are to blame!. note is aid SOME parents!.
the government should have a higher tax on all junk foods just like they do on other things that are bad for you alcohol and cigarettes!. junk leads to death and health problems too!! it seems a little harsh but a higher tax on junk foods that are bought he most by children like chocolates and crisps would discourage kids from buying them!

shops now sell junk foods cheaper than healthy foods!. there's more offers and incentives on buying junk foods than ther is on vegetables and fruits!. there's ALWAYS some sort of junk food on 'half price' and the 'two for one' offer!.!.!. this is just causing parents to buy these crappy foods for their kids and the kid want them more that way!

firms like coke and all the others alike are partly to blame too! fair enough its just a business to them and they'r just trying to earn money but they should promote SOME health foods too i believe! they can't really helpt it because there is a demand for these products and they are just trying to earn a living too but they could promote water and some less S***** foods too! hey can try atleast!

and like i said!.!.!.!.!.!. SOME parents!.!.!.!. parents who just buy their kids any sort of junk they'r looking for the WHOLE time!. parents who have little insight into their health and the health of their kids!. my mother has ALWAYS made sure i excercise regularly and has never brought much junk food into the house but some parents have cupboards and cupboards full of biscuits and cakes and crisps and chocolates!.!.!.l you name it!!! those parents play a HUGE role in the obesity of their kids!. and they'r the ones to blame in that case! they need to learn about health and incorporate it into their lives and the lives of their kids!. they need to teach their kids the importance of healthy foods, excecise and its affects in their lives!.

so basically !.!.!.!.!.!.!. i think childhood obesity is a horrible thing because it reduces the self confidence of the kids (naturally) and it makes it difficult for those kids to understand the value of good health and how to go about obtaining it! and in some cases parents are the ones to blame but in other cases its just the fact that foods that cause obesity are much easier to obtain than ones that don't in todays day in age!

sorry about my rant but i have alot to say on this! lol!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Evolution and culture contribute to childhood obesity!. Until recent times, food supplies have been uneven throughout the year!. So humans have evolved to favor the foods that are calorie dense (higher in fat and/or carbs) or sweet!. In a nutshell, although we know that we can replenish our larder at any time (not wait for the next harvest), we tend to stuff ourselves with those favored foods!. If we were to have a famine next month, most westerners would not be at risk of a dangerous sudden weight loss!. Another evolutionary aspect to weight problems is the feeling that a good parent makes sure the children get plenty to eat, and we tend to answer every whimper or squirm with something to eat!.

The next factor in the increase in childhood obesity is our lifestyle!. We drive the children to daycare (or school); they are kept in all day long, they ride the bus home, and then they do their homework!. Because of urban sprawl, very few children can walk or ride their bikes to school, and because of the perception of unsafe neighborhoods, very few children can walk to the library, bike over to their friend's house, run to the corner grocery for mom's errands!.

Finally, read the labels of the store-bought food you have in your home!. Look at the first four ingredients: how often does "high fructose corn syrup" appear in that list!? Unless you are careful to buy 100% juice, those juice pouches that go everywhere with children these days contain an awful lot of sweeteners!.

The school lunches in my school district are scandalous !.!.!. the feed the children all of their fast-food favorites (without the brand name, but nonetheless breaded, deep fried congealed chicken parts, etc!.) !. Take your children to the supermarket !.!.!. which breakfast cereal is on the shelf just at the eye level of your 4-year-old!?

Ultimately, parents are responsible for choosing the things their children eat!. Pediatricians and family docs are not trained in nutrition; at best they hand a new mom a pamphlet printed by one of the big cereal companies and call that patient education!. We know that profit-driven food producers are not going to change !.!.!. they will work hard to sell you their most profitable products!. The neighborhood isn't going to suddenly become a safe place for children to play !.!.!. so the family is ultimately responsible to find ways to protect their children from the obesity epidemic!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Wow that is a tough question!. I did my Masters research paper on that topic!. There are many factors and none proven or really disproven!.

What I do believe is that we need to get our children more activities and have them eat properly!.

They should be moving around more then 1 hour everyday, some schools have withdrawn PE from their curriculum!. PE is always one of the first courses to get dropped from a school system, why!? because we place a much higher demand on learning!.

Childhood obesity is a serious medical condition that affects children and adolescents!. It occurs when a child is well above the normal weight for his or her age and height!. Childhood obesity is particularly troubling because the extra pounds often start kids on the path to health problems that were once confined to adults, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol!.

One of the best strategies to combat excess weight in your child is to improve the diet and exercise levels of your entire family!. This helps protect the health of your child now and in the future!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think it is a mixture of different things:
* Time being spent on games consoles, internet etc
* Parent's (and children's) awareness of the negative threats against children
* Parents who are so pressured to pay the bills that they work long hours and simply do not have the time to spend on balancing diets
* Convenience foods touted as healthy products
* So many other distractions and entertianment available to children now, I recall having nothing much to do apart from play outside and so onWww@Answer-Health@Com

It's more than obvious to me!. The problem is bad information being distributed by the food industry that is controlling the media with Huge advertising budgets!. The medical industry is not educated in nutrition and this promotes the ignorance!. Schools perpetuate the ignorance even further by allowing non-intellectual thinkers to control what is taught!.

We have to real leaders in America today, just followers!.

good luck to us allWww@Answer-Health@Com

im 13, but im fit, 5,6 51kg, i would say its the parents to blame cause the parents are to lazy to teach the child about health and fitness, self decipline and knowing the affects!. Kids dont care to much about being fit these days

because!.!.

entertainment - Just play xbox or playstation games
socialising - Go on MSN

technology is making us lazy!. Seeing young kids thats obese is really disgusting to me and shameful to see, theres kids in africa skin and bones that dont even know what a cake is!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Too much dependence on packaged food with very high calorie count!. Which is in itself a symptom of our mad modern age when few have the time, the skills or the desire to spend time cooking!. Also the use of food additives like flavor enhancers which trick your tongue into wanting more and more even when you are full!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You do not fat through food, it's all the rubbish that you stuff down your face!. If people learned to cook and sat their children at the table with a proper meal from the very start, and took them for walks or the park, or just playing in the garden instead of sitting on their backsides, problem solved!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Whoever invented video games and candy!.

And the parents, for not feeding their kids properly and teaching them how to eat healthy!.

And the kids who tease the obese kids for being fat so the fat kid gets some chocolate to feel better about their life!.

and the people (teachers, parents) who dont make an effort to stop the teasing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think that its there parents fault, because the young kids eat what they are told to do and there parents are feeding them the same amount of food which they are feeding people allot older than them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

they're only children, i think their parents should be in control of what they eat and the amount they eat!. they need to be taught whats healthy or not and all the other eating habits xWww@Answer-Health@Com
