If coffee is a diuretic...?!

Question: If coffee is a diuretic!.!.!.!?
and advice often given is to drink more water if you consume too much coffee per day, I don't fully understand how that works because coffee is made with water!

Is it drinking extra pure water that flushes it out!?

Sorry if this question sounds stupid!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
No, I totally understand!. It is confusing the way they say it!.
They make it sound like you need to drink extra water to match every cup of coffee that you drink!. But that is bogus!.

If that were true it means that the person trapped in the desert with a supply of coffee would die faster than the person with nothing to drink!. I seriously doubt it!.

Of course there is water in coffee, and your body can use it
But, it also contains the ingredients that draw water from your cells (diuretic property), so it isn't as useful as plain water

An easier way to think about it is that 1 cup of coffee does not equal one cup of water!. So, if you need to drink 8 cups of water every day (which can include milk, juice, etc!.) , you should probably only count the cup of coffee as being equivalent to maybe half a cup of hydration!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yep coffee is a diuretic!. It's the caffeine in it!. You will definitely feel the effects especially with a strong cup from starbucks or something!. I find if I drink a strong cup, I have to go to the bathroom right after and then again a short time later!.
You'll here mixed things that drinking anything could count as drinking water but I find nothing is as refreshing or as hydrating as pure water!. It is the source of all lifeWww@Answer-Health@Com

The caffeine in the coffee is the diuretic (sp!?), and people are often advised to drink lots of water if they also drink lots of coffee because it will dillute the caffeine!. The whole liquid amount will make you pee more, but the other stuff (ick!.!.!.) will be less of a side effect than if you just drink tons of coffee and no water!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i heard kinda the same thing, we were talking about this at work last week!. Someone that I would believe was saying that for every cup of coffee, drink a cup of water!. they will cancel each other out!. and then after that count each cup of water towards your water intake for the day!. I'm not sure the reasoning behind that!. I know that coffee in moderation is good for you, like two cups a dayWww@Answer-Health@Com

It's the natural extracts in coffee that make it a diuretic!. The reason people are instructed to drink extra water is because losing too much water (as a result of consuming a diuretic) can/will dehydrate you!.

Not a stupid question!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Coffee is definatly a diuretic!. If you have too much you will be on the toilet!.
They would tell you to drink water so that you don't end up dehydrated!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
