Answers:
In the case of yogurt specifically it is more healthy that soda, even with similar calories, because it contains vitamins and microorganisms (acidophilus) that are necessary for bone health (calcium) and digestion!.

Sodas usually contain water carbonation sugar and artificial flavors!. Out of these ingredients your body only needs the water, which if there is caffeine in the pop, will not even end up staying in your body, as caffeine makes you loose more water than you take in when you drink caffeinated beverages!.

In general, when trying to eat healthy, you have to understand that it's not just about minimizing calories!. Actually taking in too few calories will injure your health and make you gain more weight in the long run!. Eating healthy is about packing as much nutrition into the calories you do eat and staying away from unnatural foods that satisfy a craving but give you nothing to work with!. Let me break it down!.

A calorie is a measure of energy!. It is the stored chemical energy in our food that allows us to stay alive and do things with our bodies!. Specifically, a calorie is the amount of energy, or heat, it takes to raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 degree Celsius (1!.8 degrees Fahrenheit)!. This is why you burn more calories when you move than when you do not and why you heat up when you are working out!. Calories are the stored energy that you take in from food and store in your body so that you can perform work and stay alive!.

But there is a lot more to nutrition than just calories!. Your body needs a diet balanced in "macronutrients" (protein, carbohydrates, and fats) as well as "micronutrients" (vitamins and minerals) and antioxidants, fiber, etc!. The trick is getting everything your body needs every day for optimal health but avoiding foods that are high in calories and low in nutrients (empty calories)!.

Basically your body needs lots of vegetables and whole grains!. Some proteins are essential such as lean meats or vegetable proteins like tofu or tempeh!. Contrary to popular belief humans do not "need" dairy as we evolved without access to milk other than breast milk for millions of years!. Most people have trouble digesting cow milk and cow milk products unless they are already partially digested (as is yogurt)!. We used to get our calcium from green vegetables but most people do not eat enough vegetables to get all their calcium needs met!.

If you are vegetarian or vegan be sure to take a good multivitamin every day!. If you are not vegetarian or vegan, take a good multivitamin every day anyway!. Unless you are meticulous about healthy foods you are probably not getting what you need!. The average American diet of junk foods does not meet our nutrition needs! This is why you can eat a pizza and down a big soda and be hungry two hours later!. You're getting the calories but not the nutrients you need!.

Junk foods actually poison the body with artificial chemical preservatives, colorings, pesticides, and fertilizer residues!. Processed sugars (most sweets that aren't fresh fruit contain processed sugar) make your body work really hard to balance the insulin and blood sugar levels and can lead to diabetes eventually if eaten in excess!. All sugar is is a simplified form of carbohydrates, so carbohydrate rich foods like bread and pasta can really pack on calories!.

Make sure you get all your sugars from fresh fruit and your carbs from whole grains, beans (legumes) whole grain breads, and vegetables!. your body needs the fiber and you will feel full longer!. Choose meats that are low in fat or opt for vegetable based proteins!. Eating small amounts of nuts, salmon, avocados and specialty oils like hemp seed oil or flax seed oil will actually help you to lower your cholesterol, keep your skin healthy, and crave less fried foods!.

Your body will thank you if you learn some simple (and not so simple) things about how it works and what it needs!. I recommend the Nutrition Bible (see the Amazon link below) for a comprehensive guide to eating healthy for life!.

If you eat healthy and exercise moderately on a regular basis you will live longer, feel better, and look great!. It's not about eating less calories, it's about giving your body everything it needs before you even think about giving it something it doesn't need!.

Every day your body needs:

~8 hours of sleep!.
~8 eight ounce glasses of water!.
~20-40 minutes of moderate exercise!.
~10-20 minutes of stretching!.
~Plenty of fresh vegetables!.
~Some whole grains!.
~Some lean protein!.
~A multivatiamin!.
~contact with nature, laughter, and
~several deep breaths!.

You don't just need a certain number of calories to be healthy!. You need protein, complex carbs, a little fat, vitamins, minerals etc!. Lowfat dairy like yogurt gives you protein and calcium, coke just gives you sugar (simple carbs)!. If you stick with lowfat dairy, chicken, fish and lean beef, lots of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, you will be eating healthier than most of America!Www@Answer-Health@Com
