I'm 6'0" and 236 lbs. I've worked down from 256 by walking, but I want to get down to about 190. Can hitting the weights give me a boost?

yes, but of course it's best to do it in conjunction w/ a healthy, balanced diet (high protein, low carbs, eating five small meals a day), drinking plenty of water, and doing at least 45 minutes of cardio.
