Why do women lift so little weight in the gym?!


Question: Why do women lift so little weight in the gym!?
Of course one would expect them to lift somewhat less than men - perhaps 60 - 80% of what a typical guys lifts!. But from what I see it is usually more like 15 - 25%!. And it is not like I lift a lot - I am 5'9 155lb and there are guys who lift 2-3 times more than me, so I am not applying some unreasonable standard!.

It just seems girls are just not trying!. First, it hardly seems like they are straining or grunting or visibly putting up any effort when they lift!. Second, the (very) few girls who DO try can lift as much as guys (and often more than me)!.

PS - yes I realize girls "don't want to get big", and I wish I had their problem!. It is pretty damn hard to get big even when you are trying hard!. Not to mention it is easier for a guy because of testosterone!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, whenever I work out, I put the weights so that I only feel a little bit of pressure, then I go for longer!. You're right, I don't want freakily defined muscles, because that would probably scare guys away!.

Plus, its not very attractive when the guys come out and their backs are stained with sweat!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I lift less more, I want tone not bulk and lifting heavier with shorter reps adds bulk!. Women are supposed to be trim and muscular, we don't work out like men, the ones who do, do you really want to date!? Most look like men!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, they are scared they will become 'big'!. They also might feel intimidated by guys who think the opposite to you!.!.!.!.that girls shouldn't lift at all let alone lift heavy!.!.!.!.yes those cavemen still exist unfortunately!. Glad to hear you aren't one of them : )Www@Answer-Health@Com

Because for girls, we get "toned" with low weight and a lot of repetitions!.

But i press 190lbs with my legs!. i do go for a lot of weight!. just depends on the person!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I wouldn't be to concerned Just what women lift!.!.!.they, like us, will not get big unless they're taking the juice!. you lift what you need to lift to get where you want to be and so will they!.!.!.grunting is mainly showing off!.!.My workouts are intense and often heavy!.!.I don't grunt!.!.!.I could if I wanted people to notice what I'm doing!.!.I'm not in there to put on a show for anyone!.!.!.I'm trying to reach a goal!.!.!.!.I'm happy if there's no one in the gym!.!.my workout partner is a woman, former figure model and at 5'9" at 140 with 9% body fat!.!.!.damn hot!. She does moderately heavy for a woman who's not pumped on juice!.!.!.She'll do 120 on the leg extension machine, squats with 140, leg curls at 80, seated shoulder press with 35 lb dumbbells!.!.!.lots of women lift less!.!.we're still not concerned with what they lift!.!.!.the fact they are there doing something and trying ot make a change is all that matters!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You answered your own question!. You don't have to kill yourself to be in shape!. Women don't want to bulk up like guys do, just tone their muscles!.

And when you "grunt" or visibly put in effort, you are not keeping proper posture during the lift!. You aren't isolating the muscle you are trying to work, and you won't get nearly as much result!.

It doesn't mean they CAN'T!. Some women do like to bulk up!. I have an instructor who used to be a body builder, a woman!. But most women don't want that!.

Try using less weight, and holding perfectly still and doing your lifts JUST with the muscle you are targeting!. You will have faster and better results!. Maybe you need a session or two with a personal trainer!.

Don't take it out on women just because you can't bulk up!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
