Please help with building muscle?

ok my mom and my step-dad are telling me to eat more if i want to build more muscle for example on breakfast i eat a bowl of corn flakes with some non-fat milk and some fruit. and a fruit smoothie for a drink. and for supper i try to get something with protein and a vegetable, i been trying to build muscle for a little over a year and still lookpretty thin in the arms i've been moving up in my weights though. but i still don't see results i do a lot of cardio and ab workouts and i can see my abs. my mom suggested eat something different for breakfast each day (waffles, eggs cereal one day with banana nut bread, french toast, omelet, ) just different things for breakfast since it's the summer and when school starts i won't have alot of time to make my breakfast. also she said dont stress myself out over treats because i count calories and carbs/fat in before i eat them. and she said if you crave something eat it because by the end of the week it will balance is she right i'm 5'5-1/2 125
