Question:

I'm trying to lose weight. Will running/walking 3 miles 4 times a week plus eating better help me lose weight?

My goal is to lose 50 lbs by February, that is when my wife and I are expecting our first baby. I want to be healthier and in good shape for the baby.

Answers:

Yes, it will definately help you lose weight. I have a plus size Mom, she has lost about 100+ lbs by walking and eating better. No special diet. She drinks water all day long, has cut out most of her refined sugars, and stays away from unhealthy snack foods. Don't get me wrong she occasionally still has those sweets, dessert, soda, etc but she eats/drinks them once in a great while. Another that she has done is cut out most of the salt (it retains water weight). The one thing that I have noticed about her is that she has alot more energy and feels alot better about herself.
One thing that I would suggest, find somewhere to walk that is beautiful. This way it is not somewhere you dread. Even if you have to drive to get there it is alot easier to exercise if it is not a dull, boring walk. I always dread going to the gym, due to the fact that it is all high tech, you have those people that act like they are the best, most beautiful and it can get on your nerves, not wanting to work out anymore.
Also try not to work in a housing development, it is very distracting and you are counting how many blocks you have walked and how many more back to your house.
Find a path around a lake, by a river or stream, or in a park. This will make it seem that you are just taking a nice relaxing walk instead of doing it for a purpose.
GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS!!!!

Sorry I know I already wrote a book but I was eating lunch and remembered something.
When eating, eat untill you are satisfied and not untill you are full. Also eat less more frequently. I know it seems difficult when most people work a strict schedule that you get set breaks and a set lunch. But instead of trying to eat your entire lunch at one time, try to spread it out through the day. Eat a small breakfast, pack your lunch to fit your breaks. If you take sandwiches cut them in half, eat one half on your first break with a piece of fruit or something. Do the same thing for each of your breaks it makes it easier for you to stay full all day long. It will also help to keep you from buying unhealthy snack foods, and will also keep your energy level up without the quick crashes.
