Is obsessing about calories really necessary for losing weight and staying healt!

Question:

Is obsessing about calories really necessary for losing weight and staying healthy?

I have packed on about 20 pounds over the last year due to overeating and depression and not exercising enough. I am getting back into my routine of going to the gym 5 days a week (it's on my way home from work so it's convenient).

The question is, as long as I get back into exercising regularly and watch what I eat without being obsessive about it, can I still lose the weight?

I'm 25 and I read online that a 25 y/o male should eat about 2000-2500 calories a day. I've tried counting calories in the past and it drove me nuts.

The human body is designed to tell you when you are full. Isn't that a better indicator than anything else?

Answers:

UGH! i am obsessing about calories myself! I write it down everrrrrrryday and its getting OLD! I know how you feel. But i have lost 10 lbs by doing so. But now i am on a plateau and trying to figure out how to shake out of it. I think counting calories does help a lot because you wouldn't believe how many calories are in some things out there. I believe you will lose weight just fine if you continue to do your routine. It takes time though..2 months and 10lbs for me, definitely wish it was 20lbs! haha but thats how it is.
