Question:

I want to build my muscles up for rugby what are the best supplements?

I will be doing training twice a week mainly using cv methods but want a supplement that will work in concert with this to help me bulk up and need to know the best way to take and amounts etc. cheers for anything you can offer.

Answers:

CV training will be good for your general level of fitness but you won't add muscle very easily. Your best bet is to get down to a gym and start on a strength (weight) training program. And don't worry, its not a scary proposition - everyone in there had to start somewhere.

As for muscle gain supplements, the best stuff you can take (available at most good supermarkets) is lean chicken breast, lean beef steak, Tuna and Eggs. And plenty of them. Bear in mind that the pro's eat 5-6,000 calories in an average day wheras the average person eats 2-3,000. The best food supplement you can take is, well, food.

Aside from that, the only other thing Id recommend is a protein shake. Its a good way of making sure your developing muscles get the materials they need to grow. Its also much easier to have a protein drink straight after a workout than a plate of grilled chicken. I bought mine from an ebay store (link below), its Chocolate flavour and its actually tasty. Just like having a nice glass of chocolate milk. Drink 1 serving after working out and 1 serving 1st thing in the morning. That'll sort you out.

Until you get a lot bigger I wouldn't worry too much about anything else. The big thing is to get some strength training in soon. You can't grow if your don't tell your body about it!
