Are wrist/ankle weights effective and which should I buy?!

Question: Are wrist/ankle weights effective and which should I buy!?
Hey I'm a tennis player and all around fitness enthusiast and have taken an interest in wrist/ankle weights!. I feel if I'm wearing light wrist weights most of the time besides sleeping I suppose I can gain a lot of strength!. Also adding some weight to them during certain activities EX: Adding some resistance to pull-ups!.
So would using wrist weights give me a noticeable change in strength once I can move around normally with them!?

Now onto ankle weights!.
I figure I could use these for pull-ups if they feel weird around my wrists and if I get used to going to tennis practice with them then during games I can take 'em off and just explode! As well as sprints and distance running I would think would be affected!. Is this feasible!?

Any info is greatly appreciated!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Ankle weights have lost popularity for use during sports!. They are fine for pullups, leg raises and the like!. Wrist weights should be fine!.

Dr!. Anthony Luke, assistant professor of orthopedics and director of primary care sports medicine at UC San Francisco, says that ankle weights make muscles, such as hamstrings, quadriceps and glutes, work harder to do the same motion!. "It's giving a better workout for those big muscles!." There's also a bigger cardiovascular benefit, because you're using more exertion!.

Now for the downside: "It will put more force on the joints as well as the muscles," he says!. "If there's an existing problem, it can make things more difficult!."

If you're healthy and have no joint problems, you may be fine!. But if you feel any aching in your joints, or you change the way you move to accommodate the weights -- and that results in pain -- then stop!.
