Yes, its true that plastic bottles release a potentially dangerous toxin into the water, but only some of them do, whether it is dangerous or not depends on the plastic it is made from!. If you look at the bottom of your bottle you should see the recycle symbol, in the middle of the symbol there should be a number and letters below the symbol!. These numbers and letters tell you what type of plastic it is!. This is the chart that indicates if the plastic is safe or not!.
#1 PETE or PET - Safe, but according to some studies you should not re-use
#2 HDPE - Safe
#3 PVC or V - Not Safe
#4 LDPE - Somewhat Safe (Try to avoid, but still a fine plastic)
#5 PP - Not Safe
#6 PS - Not Safe for hot things like liquid
#7 Other - Not Safe
