Question: Getting a 6pack and question on body fat!?
Hi :)

I'm female, 5''8 and weigh 118 Ibs!. I'm starting to go the gym to tone up!.!.

I used this http://www!.healthcentral!.com/cholesterol!.!.!.
online calculator to work out my body fat percentage and it told me I'm 7!.5%!.

I know that for a 6pack to show, your body has to have low body fat but I'm not sure what this percentage is!? Does anyone know so they can give me any tips please :)!?

I would also be really grateful is anyone could give me any other tips on working out in a healthy sustainable way and anything else as I'm only a beginner! Thank you lots :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi, first of all it is nice to hear someone who has an intelligent take on things and even knows about body fat levels!.

But I don't think that online calculator is the way to go, it sounds like you are a bit out hun!.

Try and get it measured yourself (a gym or GP can do it, or they sell Body Fat machines in Argos even!) Remember that a healthy range for an adult female is around 25 - 30%

For a six pack to show you are right body fat does have to be low, but it has to be at the lower borderline level of healthy, there is an unhealthy 'underweight category' under that remember, so you have to balance things out!.

Im sure you are aware that to have a six pack you need to do crunches, but you need to strengthen your ENTIRE torso to have a great body!.

The frontal ab wall actually has an 8 pack, not a 6, so you need to do basic crunches (for the upper half) flat crunches and super crunches (for the middle) and leg raises (preferably with light weights at your ankles) for the lower section!. Then you need to to abdominal twists for your side obliques (obviously at your sides, but these help define the '6' pack) and also strengthen your lower back muscles!.

Try doing plyometric training too, (such as aerobics or using kettle bells) as this will strengthen all your muscles as well as get your heart going!.

In terms of getting your body fat down, you need to do cardio excercise (running, swimming, cycling etc!.) anything that gets you out of breath and sweating!.

Your body fat is extremely low - you must be very, very thin!. It is going to take more than toning up to get a six pack - you need to build some muscle tissue and will therefore end up weighing more!. Get some advice from one of the trainers at your gym!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is no way your body fat percentage is 7!.5% !.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. if it was you should already be seeing your 6 pack!.
