Iron deficiency anemia?!

Question:

Iron deficiency anemia?

My daughter has this, can it be hereditary as I have it, so does my Mum? Or is it due to a bad diet? I give her a well balanced diet so I don't understand. I know which foods to give her but she also has to take medication. Thanks

Answers:

It is possible, there are types of anemia that are genetically passed on, you didn't specifiy which type of anemia she had the most common is microcytic anemia, and is caused by a Fe deficiency. Fe deficiency is usually enviromental and is probably not genetic, but it doesnt mean thats its caused by malnutrition, low iron can be associated with chronic bleeding often associated with heavy menstrual periods as well as malabsorption syndromes, i recommend you talk to your doctor about any possible underlying conditions that may be cause a Fe deficiency. Hope that helps, Good Luck :D
