Kcal & cal ??? referred to when working out?!
Question:
Kcal & cal ??? referred to when working out?
I just got a new skipping rope which tells you how many skips you do and the kcal.. I just did 1000 skips at a fast pace (13mins) and apparently I burnt 29.5 kcal.. I looked at previous posts and people say that kcal and cal are essentially the same thing or a kcal = 1000 cal... so did I really burn 295 calories?? that seems a bit excessive in 13 mins??
Answers:
295 cal in 13 minutes comes to 23 cal/minute. That's doable but would be very high intensity. Here's a chart of calories burned per minute for various activities for comparison http://www.coolnurse.com/calories.htm... .
I doubt you are off by an factor of 10 (or 1000) but any calculations like that are subject to quite a bit of error but are still useful for comparing different exercise sessions as a motivational tool.
