Answers:
A calorie is a unit of energy!. One calorie is the amount of energy needed to raise the temperature 1 gram of water 1 degree centigrade!. This is kind of hard to measure for a variety of reasons (there are other more complex definitions)!.

Really just being alive "burns calories" meaning there is a certain amount of energy which goes in to your basic metabolism even lying still on a bed!.

The more exercise you do, the more muscle groups involved, the time it takes you to do it, the amount of oxygen you utilize, your weight , all play a part in how many "calories" are burned, and the rate at which fat is burned (longer exercise time at a lower rate burns the most fat)!.

As an example, an adult ( 150 lbs) lying still on a bed and not ever moving would use about around 40 calories an hour!. If that same adult were jogging for an hour they would burn over 400 calories!.

The 20 minutes a day to which you are referring is the minimum needed to start conditioning your heart and lungs and muscles to a higher level of health, provided you are increasing your oxygen consumption, and not just raising your heart rate (you can raise that by having a fever, you'll burn more calories but not improve your fitness level)!.

maybe more then you wanted to know!!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
