You are in middle school. People are cruel. Thats what they do. If they aren't talking about your weight, they'll call you ugly, stupid, or anything else.
In middle school, I had recently moved from a bigger city. I didn't go to the "cool" elementary school and was picked on constantly. In high school, I was dating constantly--a member of several sports, chorus and drama. Completely popular and those guys that wouldn't talk to me b/c i didn't go to the "cool elementary school" felt outrageously stupid for caring about an elementary school.
Thats how middle school works. Middle school was put on earth to keep everyone in an "awkward" stage together in one location to take out their aggression on each other. It was invented to give you character, and a strong sense of self. Remember what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
