Even when I could run, I was never a good distance runner, either!. I would say do whatever feels better for you!. I'm not a professional athlete or trainer, but if you feel better doing the quarter miles with a rest in between, I'd go with that!. Pacing yourself is important!. I wouldn't try to push yourself beyond your endurance level!. You're still getting the benefits of the exercise!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is better to do continuous exercise if it is cardio!. Running, jogging, walking should all be done without breaks!. Obviously, if you need to stop to rest, then do so!.!.!.!. passing out completely defeats the purpose of exercise!. If you feel like you can't make it one mile, then drop from running to steady jogging!. If you can't jog the whole mile, then drop down to speed walking!. Do not stop moving though!. You
want to keep your heart rate up, but not pounding out of your
chest!. If you're having a tough time breathing, it is best if you continue to walk at least!. You can use your puffer while walking!. Letting your heart rate go down too fast is bad for you!.

By the way, the following statement you made is a bunch of bull-crap:

"I have mild asthma so really can't do much more than a mile!."

Yes, you can!. Mild asthma shouldn't slow you down much at all!. My little brother has it and he runs 5 miles a day before school!. He does, however, wear a hospital mask because he has a really hard time with allergies that stimulate his asthma!. The mask keeps out a lot of the pollin and pollutants!.

Don't use your asthma as an excuse to limit yourself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, the asthma might hinder long distance running but I will say that I've always heard that your body doesn't start exercising your heart or burning calories until your heart rate reaches a certain level (different depending on age/weight/etc)!. For me, for example, my heart rate has to hit 120 before it's actually doing me any good to be running!. It has to hit 120 and stay at or above it!. A quarter of a mile will barely do that and then with a rest shortly after, it slows back down!. So my guess would be to run as far as you can in one go!.!.!.as much as your asthma will allow!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is more conditioning to run the full mile without rests, but if you realy need to take one, make sure you are still walking (i find this also prevents cramps!) I have asthma too, so I know that it is hard!. but with practice, it will just get easier and easier to complete miles!. remember, you can keep going unless theres you are on the ground and the is an E!.R!. physician attending to you! I hope this helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well I really guess it depends why you are running!. If you are trying to build speed the 1/4 miles with the rest are better run run them harder!. If you are trying to build endurance or lose weight the mile with out stopping is better because you are sustaining your heart rate for a longer period of time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it depends on what you want your body to do!.!.both are pretty much useless if you wana get in shape!. if you wana get faster than run 10 quarters with one minute rest!.!.if you wana get endurance than run ten miles!. asthma shouldnt hold you back if you mage it right!. i run track in college and i have bad asthma but i take my medicine and fight through itWww@Answer-Health@Com

I would do whatever you are comfortable with!. Don't over do yourself!. If you think you can do more, then do more!. Just don't over do it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't know, but why would someone run a mile if they've already invented airplanes!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

through doing it in stages if thats better for you then stick with it , another way instead of just stopping walk briskly then run etc , this is cardio vascular excersiseWww@Answer-Health@Com

I dont know about asthma sufferes but generally one mile is better than four quarters!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

whatever works for you is best!. as long as you slow to a jogg, walk a little and then rest!. dont stop from a fast pace!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The mile is the best way to build staminaWww@Answer-Health@Com

I guess it's better to run a complete mile!.Asthma must suck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
