Hi: I am a triathlete and may be able to help you. The sprint tri you are training for is probably a 1/4 mi. swim, 12 mi. bike, 5k run? I am not sure how your workouts have been but you want to do at least one of the disciplines (run, bike, swim) per day, if not two. I try to get my run in early in the morning or at lunch. I will swim or bike after work if possible.

I too am not a strong swimmer. But remember swimming is the first stage of the race. You have the rest of the race to catch up. What I do is go to my local pool and swim laps that will mirror the distance that I will be racing. Alot of areas have masters racing clubs that you can get great advice on your stroke. I have learned that the key to swimming is the technique. You can also go to your local bookstore an get good info on swimming.

To me biking and running are fun. If you can bike to your swim workout that would be great. What you want to do is ride longer then the distance of the race i.e. 12 mi. This will allow your body to adapt to the longer distance. What you want to do is get out in the open where you don't have to worry about traffic and people and you can concentrate on riding. There are local biking clubs that you can ride with if you wish. If you ride the same route alot as time goes by you will notice that you are finishing faster. What you can do is at times make training a race against the clock. Again, go to local bookstore and do some research.

In regards to running just get out and put the miles in. There must be running events in your area. Enter some of them, it is a good way to get training in. One thing that I do is called a "brick". A brick is a double workout. I would go biking and then right away switch into my running shoes and do a run. You want to start with small distances at first and work your way up. This helps your body adapt from biking to running. It will also help your endurance. If you have any questions let me know. Remember, practice makes perfect. Good luck.
