Do you burn more calories if you're...?!
Question:
Do you burn more calories if you're...?
cold?? because you would have to use energy to warm up and stuff??
please, no sarcastic replies. i am really wondering. and which burns more: hot or cold drinks?? and hot and cold temps?? thanks!
Answers:
Yes, your body burns more calories at rest in very cold environments. The reason is because your body ALWAYS tries to maintain homeostasis. That is, it tries to keep the body at one level temperature (98.6 degrees).
During the winter seasons your body's metabolism will rev up trying to keep your body warm. In the summer is slows since your surroundings are already warm (you don't want to cook yourself).
This may seem contrary since most people gain weight during the winter but that is due to holiday eating and less outdoor activities.
As for drinking cold beverages I think the impact will be minimal on burning calories.
