Crunches how often?!


Question: Crunches how often!?
I'm just curious, how effective are crunches in gaining a six pack!? I do around 300 a night, mixed in with lower ab exercises!. Not exactly sure what it's called, but I straighten my legs and raise them from the floor to a 90 degree angle, and back down!. Now I know that cardio is a necessity to see results, but how much is an appropriate amount, and how often should I be doing these ab workouts!?

I alternate days with my workout routines (Arms/back one day, shoulders the next etc!.!.!.) Should similiar be done with abs!? Thanks in advance!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm probably in a minority here, but I never got anything but mediocre results from crunches!. I kickboxed for years, and as part of my daily workout I would do 100 crunches in the morning and 100 in the evening!. I only started seeing real ab definition when I start using the crunch machine in the gym - not sure what it's called, but you're in a standing position and you lean forward into a crunch!.

I wouldn't advise rotating your ab workouts!. Abs are a very tough area to tone up and need as much attention as you can give them!. Crunches don't put the same kind of stress on your body as weightlifting and such will do, so there is no need to rotate!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Doing hundreds of crunches is firstly pointless and secondly bad for you!.

It is pointless because your abs are composed of what are called "slow twitch" fibers whereby they respond best to short bursts of high intensity work, around 10-20 repetitions of an exercise or so!. Thereby hold a weight behind your head when you do them so as to challenge yourself more!.

Excessive floor crunches are bad for you because they firstly promote bad posture and can cause damage to your lower back!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
