Yoga-Why does my back round so I feel like I'm going to fall backward?!

Question:

Yoga-Why does my back round so I feel like I'm going to fall backward?

In the seated forward bends in yoga, how come people look like they are on the front of their pelvic bones and I'm on my butt?

And any advice on how to make it happen?

Answers:

When you do forward bends, you should make sure that you reach up and forward, leading with your chest, not your head. This will help keep you from rounding your back, but, like me your problem may be more physiological. I played hockey and cycled seriously for many years, which has resulted in tight hamstrings, which makes it difficult for me to bend forward from the hips. Normally, when you do forward bends, your back should not arch - it should look like you are closing a book. The key is to keep leading with your chest and to go forward until you feel a deep stretch. Once you do, it is okay to relax the back a bit in order to go deeper. A good teacher should be able to help you move past this obstacle.

Namaste and good luck!.
