Is it just a strange obsession, or is it an eating disorder?!

Question:

Is it just a strange obsession, or is it an eating disorder?

My father exercises all the time, and i'm wondering if he's overdoing it. He told me yesterday that he ran 30 miles (in one run, and he's done as much as 60), and is always running. but he doesn't seem to be eating much. he tends to go through dietary phases, like drinking smothies everyday for lunch (with no real food alongside it). if you go to his house you'll notice that the refrigerator is almost empty; he explains this by saying that if there's too much food he'll eat it all and gain weight. he is always keeping track of the calories in everything he eats, and always checks the nutritional facts. i notice that he also eats very fast.

if he has got a problem, what can be done?

it's strange though, isn't it? i mean usually it's women who are concerned with this type of thing. he says it's about being healthy, but can i really trust his judgement? sometimes i catch myself doing similar things; i don't live with him anymore, but i guess his habits have come off on me a little.

Answers:

It is hard to be 100% sure. However, I would say that someone with an eating disorder would not have the physical capability to run 30 miles. I would have to conclude that his eating habits are not that bad. With all of that being said, I do not know the full story and I could be wrong.
