Start when they are babies!. Parents today are so lazy!. I can say this because I use to work at a Day Care and I have nieces, cousins and so on that every time the baby crys they stick a bottle in their month or hand them a piece of candy or bag of chips to shut them up!. They go to Mickey D's, because the child wants to!. When my daughter was growing-up she ate when we ate!. I cooked her meals, I didn't give her a meal from a box!. My grandchildren are being raised the same way!. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with fast-food, but there is no use to hand a child a cold french fry, when you can just as easy get up a cook a healthy hot meal!. I get so sick of seeing where parents sue fast-food places for making there child fat when they are the ones that shell out the money to buy the stuff and they are the ones that are to lazy to get up and fix a meal!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Provide a lettuce cake and your kids friends will mock them for the rest of their lives at school!. A nice sweet birthday cake once a year isn't going to kill anyone!.

How!? Well, it's the day-to-day habits you have to watch!. Don't stock the cupboards with junk food, chips, choccy biscuits, fizzy drinks, suger-laden cereals, etc!. Unless your kids are able to go shopping by themselves, they can only eat whatever you put in front of them!.

Our kids snack on fruit and nuts - we keep jars of nuts and a bag of bananas on the kitchen table, and there's one of those spiral peeler/corer things on the bench which they put apples and pears through!.

Consider the meals you cook - heart smart mince can contain much less than half the fat of budget mince, and if you're struggling to cover the weekly shopping bill why not get the best mince and pad it out with potato, onion, zucchini, etc!?

Our kids love porridge for breakfast, cooked with 1/2 full cream milk and 1/2 water, and sprinkled with 1/2 a tsp of sugar!. By comparison, some sweet breakfast cereals are more than 50% sugar by weight!.

We're not health fanatics by any means: In my family we don't use low-fat or fake-sugar anything, and we don't get enough exercise, but we're all well inside the healthy BMI values!. The goal is to eat less calories than you burn, that's all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

do not bring junk food into the house at all times get it as a treat once in a while child size portions at meal time healthy snacks ect!.!. apple juice with gellitin with apple chunks very low fat low sugar and sodium foods bake and broil season with spices o salt and water for at least every second drink and get them active even in a water sprinkler were they love to run threw itWww@Answer-Health@Com

Kids have always eaten sweets!. Personally I think most of the problem lies in main meals such as lunch and dinner!. These meals need to be regulated and healthy - less take aways! Do a birthday "cake" without the cake and the poor kid will be so upset for his/her birthday!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Get the kids involved in all the cooking at all times!. My mum did it with me and i love most veg now!. if you get to play with the food u might eat it or!.!.!.

You can arrange a football match or any other sports and game among your kids friends and after that a swimming competition among them and arrange a cake party and juice drink party!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Parents need to know what to feed their kids!.

My parents taught me all the wrong portion sizes, I used to think four slices of toast for breakfast was normal, and eating a 1/4 of a tub of ice cream in one sitting was OK!.

It took me until age 15 to stand up and say "No" to eating KFC twice a week, and to start exercising!. That was a year ago, and I have lost about 40kg from 100kg!. It was hard, when everyone was eating McDonalds, I was eating brown rice and chicken, and I did have my downfalls, but I got there!.

I think techonology is also a big factor with kids!. When I was 7, we had always lived on a farm, we didn't even have a TV!.!.!. never watched it! Never had a playstation etc!.!.!. we used to play outside and ride our bikes from the moment we got up until we were forced inside to grudginly eat meals!. Then, once we moved to town, TV was our babysitter, my brother and I would come home from school and watch TV, only getting up to eat a packet of chips or drink a Coke!. Now, I know a lot of kids are getting heavy because they sit and play on the computer now!.

Moderation is also the key, the generation before the Y's thought getting a pair of socks was an awesome Xmas present, now, anything less than a Wii causes a serious problem!. When I was a kid, a Kinder suprise was the most awesome treat, once a month at the supermarket- a year ago, a family pack of MnM's a week was the minimum!. It doesn't help that McDonalds etc is so cheap, what parent wouldn't shuck out $20 for Happy Meals for the family, rather than $20 of fresh healthy food, and having to cook it at home!? Everything is so go go go nowdays, how many people still know how to cook a good family roast!?

I think kids need to learn from a young age that McDonalds and KFC aren't a staple, a once a year treat, if that!. Instead of these kids who sit around at home for hours just playing the computer, why aren't they outside at least, even just walking down to the store to get some vegetables!

Also, for all those heavy kids- don't give up on yourself!. You can change if you want!. And yes, it's hard, and yes, you will slip sometimes, but you can do it if it's what you really want!. It's as easy as saying no to the fried crap, getting off the computer and TV, and getting out the back with the dog and having a good time!. You will feel so much better, about yourself and your future, and for your lifetime you can reach your full potential and not be held back by your weight!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
