Answers:
Depends on your personal goal in practicing yoga!. The word yoga means unity and it is literally a practice of many unions!. The union of your mind, body and spirit is a lofty yoga goal and takes concentrated well guided practice to achieve!. There is also the unity of you and others within your practice- that unity is achieved within a class of well intentioned students and an expert yogi or yogini to guide the practice to a union of effort!. This is a lovely experience usually achieved within the confines of an ashram or advanced class of practicioners!. The union of breath (prana) and life force with the asanas (poses) is how one can achieve yoga stillness or presence!. The union of your chakras or energy centers is another good reason to practice yoga because this will create in you a sense of wellness and calm purpose!. Some use yoga to unite themselves with their "God" or supreme being!. Many in yoga beleive that the notion of God is not an external force but rather that God and the Universe reside within each individual and that to reach that God and feel the expression of it within you is the highest hope of yoga!. Some just want a new form of exercise that will improve: flexibility, strength, balance, and in some cases (yoga flow or gym yoga) cardiovascular function!. Actually most people begin yoga with that interest!. Until you know exactly what you are willing to give to your practice and what you hope to get from your practice I would highly recommend getting into a class and keeping an open mind!. Once you have perfected the basics (breath, bondas, and asanas) and have learned to do it through "himsa" and "satia" which are truth and compassion for your own level of work on any given day then you can add to your practices with tapes, internet programs, books, DVDs, etc!.!. Also try different forms Yin, Hatha, Kundalini, Vinyasa----- etc!.!.!.!. Sign up for the most basic even if you are fit because this requires a different type of "fitness" and "mindset" than you may be used to!. Its absolutely wonderful!. I never miss a day of yoga!. I practice in groups and in classes and individually several times a day depending on what I need!. Good luck and let me know how you like it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would not just go for the teacher, I would go for the benefits!.
Yoga offers the following
--Flexibility
--Stability
--Eye Candy

The class will also provide a bit more support and feedback from instructors to make sure you are doing everything correctly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
