Exercise, even just walking. Look for aerobic exercises (things that make you breath heavy) as opposed to strength training (things that build muscles) as muscles weight more than fat.

Foodwise, drink lots of water, stay away from fried foods (chips, KFC, etc) and things with lots of sugar. Avoid toppings if you can (mayo has 100 calories per tablespoon). find foods that fill you up that are nutritionally sound, but have few calories. Soup is great for that.

eat:
-Soup (except "cream of" soups) If it's dry packaged soup instead of tinned then throw in a handful of frozen veggies to increase the vitamins.
-Raw veggies, excellent for snacks (cellery burns more calories to digest than you actually get from the food itself)
-lean meats and fish: skinless chicken, steak, stay away from ground beef and fried anything. Especially stay away from McDonalds and other fast foods.
-fruit smoothies, just not ice cream smoothies.
-teas, coffee if you don't add more than 1 tsp of sugar and no or skim milk.

-Most juices are so processed now-a-days that they are all sugar and no vitamins. Stay away from fruit juices other than "fresh squeezed", "unpasturized" and "flash pasturized" varities.
-fast foods
-sugars (sweets, non-diet colas, etc)
-anything deep fried

Read the nutritional information on the labels. You'll be surprised at what you'll find out.

Try to keep each meal to 500 or fewer calories, and snacks to 300 or less per day. Keep a food journal, it really helps.

If you have to slip, sugar is a better cheat than fats or oils. Sugar isn't as easlly stored in the body as oils are. Plus 1tsp sugar = 35 cal. 1 tsp oil=60 cal.

But exercise it the key. It'll not only help you lose weight, it'll keep you healthy, stave off diabetes, etc. Plus muscles burn calories even when they aren't being used. The maintenance cost of a pound of muscle is 100 calories a day.
