How many calories per day?!


Question: How many calories per day!?
im 13!. i want to lose some pounds and inches off my waist!. im doing this for myself and not anyone else soo!.!. my goal is to lose at least 5-6 inches before fall or sooner!. what is a right diet that is safe and right for me!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

You have not given us enough information to answer this question!. How many calories you need a day is based on a number of factors including height, weight, age and activity level!. At 13, your body is still growing and its going to need more calories than someone of the same height and weight who is say, 30!.

What I would say is take your current weight and multiply by 10!. Generally speaking, this is your basal metabolic rate-what your body would need to maintain its weight if you did nothing other than lay in bed all day!. You then add calories to that depending on how busy you are during the day!. Since you are 13 I assume you go to school!. Adding another 500 calories for activity based on that alone is probably a safe bet!. Add more if you are doing sports!. So, that total would be the number you would need to maintain your weight!. Generally speaking, safe weight loss occurs when people cut calories by a limit amount while increasing exercise!. So, since each lb of fat=3,500 calories, decreasing your calories by 500 a day would lead to one lb of fat loss per week!. At your age, the best way to go, assuming that you even need to lose weight in the first place, would be to cut no more than 250 calories from what your need (as calculated above) is per day!. I would then add 250 calories worth of exercise for a total net loss of 500 calories!. So, you could do something like cut a bagel from your diet and go on a 3 mile walk/run per day!.

At 13 its very important to make sure you are getting enough calories to develop and grow!. Guys in particular tend to go through growth spurts at that age and they can find themselves shooting up in height very quickly, slimming down in the process!. So, you don't want to cut calories too drastically or you risk impairing this growth!. Posters who have said not to eat less than 1400-1500 a day are correct-less than that particularly at your age would have a deleterious effect on growth and metabolism!. Taking a good solid multivitamin is also essential so that you get the necessary nutrients, minerals and vitamins to assist with healthy growth and maintainence!.
