Personally, I have to slow down if I'm sick or else I won't recover. Some people claim they are better off with a light workout even if they're sick. IMO, the body needs a chance to rest and heal itself.
Also keep in mind that the gym is a public place where you'll be making physical contact with items lots of other people make contact as well. If you must work out, I would actually do some light cardio outside or some bodyweight exercises inside instead.
