Has flax oil been proven to help with depresion?!
Question:
Has flax oil been proven to help with depresion?
I know the omega 3's in fish oil have, but what about the omega 3's in flax?
Answers:
The omega 3 in flax oil is ALA (alpha linolenic acid) whereas the omega 3 in fish oil is EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).
Only about 5% or at the most 10% of the ALA in flax oil is metabolised to DHA.
Therefore flax oil is much less effective as a treatment for depression.
