Does this burn calories?!

Question:

Does this burn calories?

im currently trying to lose a few kilos (about 3) and on days where i dont do my cardio workout (which burns about 600 calories per session) i do some stuff on the spot. these include about 5 mins of jump rope, or star jumps or running really fast on the spot. afterwards my heart rate is at about 60-70% of my maximum heart rate, and i was just wondering how many calories this would be burning? i try to do 2 or 3 lots of this 5min 'workout'

thanks

ps: im 19, about 165cm, and currently weighing 53kgs

Answers:

Of course, this would burn calories.
Any activity would.

At your weight (53kg, 117 lbs), jumping rope for 5 minutes, you would use about 35 calories in a slow pace, or 44 calories in a moderate pace or 53 calories in a fast pace (think Muhammad Ali’s pace here).

So let’s assume you would jump rope in a moderate pace for 5 minutes three times in those days when you do not do your cardio workout, then you would use about 132 calories…which is about one 26th of a pound of fat or one 58th of a kilogram of fat you could lose…

Each pound of fat you need to lose is 3,500 calories (or 7,725 calories for each kilograms).

When you burn about 600 calories per session doing your cardio workout, you may be using some of your fat reserve, providing you do not eat more, especially since exercising may make you hungrier and give you the feeling you’re more entitled to eat.
You would need about 13 such workouts (13 x 600) just to lose one kilogram of fat (if you do not eat more) so you could lose about 2 kilograms a month which is good.

Now those 2 or 3 times of 5 minutes jumping or running fast on the spot with heart rate going to 70% seem a bit too much, considering the pros and cons…

The pros…okay, you could use 132 calories jumping around.

The cons…
132 calories are not enough (one 58th of a kg of fat?) compared to the rest of it (your 600 calories cardio).

Each 5 minutes is basically a warm up to make your body just start to sweat so you can really be ready for…nothing? Since you will stop after 5 minutes so all the warm up if for nothing.

There is a kind of desperation of just jumping around for 5 minutes just to lose weight (and getting sweaty in the process).

Cardios are very good to use extra fat reserve you want to get rid off.
Especially low cardios after 20 to 30 minutes, then your body starts to use your fat reserve as fuel.
So, first, you should go slow and warm up for 5 minutes.
Then when you start to sweat, you should keep going for at least 20 minutes.
After that, you should keep going as much as you can and still slowly so you can use your fat reserve as fuel.

DO NOT do those 5 minutes jumping around, just to burn a few calories and just get you sweaty for nothing.
If you do some 5 minutes warm up, do some stretching afterward and maybe a few strength training exercises like abs, crunches, squats, lunges or pushups so you can build some muscles and get your metabolism in a higher gear.
